I had had the pleasure of serving as the 2006 Clay County Princess. It has been an exciting year.
The week before the pageant was busy, but fun. As contestants, we participated in different activities throughout the week while making new friends and learning about ourselves.
I enjoyed learning tips about make-up, modeling and interviewing. The pageant is also a great way to make new friends since we spend so much time together.
I really enjoyed getting to know the other contestants.
After all my hard work and preparation, it was still a complete surprise when I won. After the pageant is when the real work began.
The week before the fair actually begins full of activities. I attended the bicycle rodeo, dog and cat shows, and the fashion revue. The week of the fair can be crazy, but it's amazing to see how much hard work each participant puts into their projects.
There were many things I enjoyed during the fair, such as the bicycle rodeo, the kid and teen fun night, showing a rooster, and especially the swine show. You never knew where a pig was going, how dirty you might get, or how exhausted you would be by the end of the day.
I had never been a part of 4-H, but after seeing first-hand all the accomplishments 4-H'ers made, I decided to join. I am now a member of the Jackson Township Farmhands.
After the fair activities are over, and the fairgrounds are bare, the parades begin. I like getting dressed up for the parades and riding in beautiful cars.
I enjoyed seeing all the people I knew on the sides of the street. What was even more thrilling was when little kids got excited about seeing the princess. Everything was always a big surprise and a new experience.
I encourage all eligible girls to enter the pageant. Each of you will get something from being involved in the pageant like a new friend, more self-confidence, or just maybe a crown.
This is just the start of something so much bigger than you can imagine.
