Man arrested for growing operation

The man authorities were looking for in connection with a small marijuana growing operation discovered near Carbon Thursday was arrested late Friday evening.

Dale Edward Calvert Jr., 37, Carbon, was booked into the Clay County Justice Center for warrant charges of possession of marijuana/hashish and possession of paraphernalia shortly after 9 p.m. on a $5,000 no cash bond.

On Thursday, Carbon Town Marshall Ron Keen was assisting a worker from the Carbon Water Department with a water disconnection notification at the residence when he discovered a live four-foot tall marijuana plant growing on Calvert's front porch in plain sight.

A search warrant for the residence located at 20 W. Private Road 1275 N. was obtained and officers from the Clay County Sheriff's Department assisted Keen during the search. Officers located and confiscated 18 non-matured marijuana plants of various sizes -- 4 to 15 feet -- at the scene.

The Clay County Prosecutor's Office then issued an arrest warrant for Calvert.

Calvert is expected to appear in Clay Circuit Court Monday for arraignement.
