Donald E. "Gene" Jones, 78, Coal City, died Tuesday at the Waters of Greencastle.
Born Aug. 15, 1928 in Lena, he was the son of John and Blanche (Morlan) Jones.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-48.
He worked in the brick factory, as a janitor, mowing yards and as a grave digger since 1974.
He was a member of the Church of Christ, Coal City. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Clay City, American Legion at Coal City, was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., member of the Eastern Star and had previously been involved in motorcycle clubs and the Clay City C.B. Club.
He married Freida Stantz on July 12, 1953. She survives.
Additional survivors include daughter Gina Seidensticker and husband Bob; grandchildren Trevor Mace and Noah Seidensticker; brothers Robert Jones, Jim Jones, Kenny Jones, Ronnie Jones and Norman Jones; sister Betty Syster; several nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eldon Jones and John Jones and sisters Mildred Vanatti, Catherine Mildred Jones and Norma Jean Jones (his twin, deceased at birth).
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City, with David Grafe officiating. Burial will follow in Fiscus Cemetery with military services performed by the American Legion and the V.F.W.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and Saturday prior to services.
