At 10:59 p.m., the crowd hushed in anticipation as State Representative and Brazil Rotary member Amos Thomas reached into a tumbling cage filled with tickets and plucked a single ticket from the rest.
"The winner of the $10,000 Rotary Raffle is Seth Ringo," Rotary President John Lee said.
Ringo was out of town, and missed hearing his name broadcast live over the loudspeaker and the Crock 92.7-FM radio station. However, he had several friends in the audience who immediately began shouting out ways for him to spend his winnings.
"Drinks on the house," and "Super Bowl with a big screen at Seth's," were just a few suggestions.
This was the first time in recent memory that a local resident has won the raffle. The last few winners have all been from outside the area or state.
Lee contacted Ringo by phone after the event. A shocked Ringo asked him to repeat the information several times.
"No way," Ringo said. "Really, really, that's great."
Ringo will join the Rotary at their next Wednesday meeting to receive his winnings.
