Donald Gene Girton, 81, Brazil, passed away at 2:55 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Clay County Healthcare Center in Brazil after a very difficult and extensive illness.

He was lovingly cared for at Earle's Village at Clay Health Center. He will be greatly missed by all of the staff and care-givers.

Don was born in Brazil, Indiana, on Jan. 23, 1926, as the son of Bill and Clara Hoopingarner Girton. He attended schools in Brazil and Indiana State University. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a store keeper and was stationed in Norfolk, Conn. With the exception of his time spent in the Navy, he lived all of his life in Brazil.

He owned and operated Girton Implement Company and Motor Transport Corporation until his health began to decline. He was a lifetime member of the Brazil Elks Lodge BPOE Lodge No. 762, American Legion Post 2 and the Brazil Veterans of Foreign Wars Port.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Rebecca Raab and two step-grandchildren, Brandon and Jeffery Robbins.

He married Lynda Robbins Girton who survives him. He is also survived by three step-sons, John Robbins of Brazil, William Patrick Robbins and wife Johnna of Brazil, and Joseph Robbins and wife Jayme of Indianapolis; four step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; daughters Kathleen Howald and husband John of Indianapolis, and Cynthia Girton of Terre Haute, and three grandchildren, Brooks, Carson and Laura of Oregon.

He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Jim Kiser of Brazil and several other extended family members.

Don's happiest times were spent with his family camping, boating and growing his flowers and vegetables or just having great holidays with Max, Aiden, Bralynn and Ethan, his beloved great-grandchildren and grandson.

Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, July 14, at Moore Funeral Home. A memorial service with Military Honors will be conducted at noon with Rev. Tony Alstott officiating.
