Born in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of David T. and Mary E. (Bergman) Winters.
She worked at the Columbia House tape plant for 20 years, before retiring from there and working for 15 years in the Custodial department at Indiana State University.
She was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church, its altar society, and was heavily involved with the soup kitchen and food pantry at the church. She was also a member of Keeping Off Pounds Sensibly.
She married Walter Fugate on Nov. 13, 1991. He survives.
Additional survivors include sons Robert R. Compton Jr. and wife Carrie, Michael J. Compton, and Kevin J. Compton and wife Christina; daughter Karen R. Smith and husband Jim, and stepdaughter Becky Fugate; brothers David L. Winters and finance Mary Lou Brooks, and George T. Winters and wife Sharon; sister Kay McGill and husband Jack; special aunt Hilda Gambill, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild.
Services will take place at 12:05 p.m. Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Terre Haute, with Father Joel Burget officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the church and 11 a.m. until Mass Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the food pantry at St. Benedict Catholic Church.
