Not even Mother Nature could halt the march of the Clay Youth League 13-year-old All-Star team into the state championship tournament.
Squaring off with Owen Valley in Monday's Babe Ruth District 6 Tournament, the CYL team drilled Owen Valley for 10 runs in the first two innings and later led 12-0 before inclement weather put a halt on the game.
With lightning in the surrounding area, both teams consented to call the game since both squads had already qualified for the Babe Ruth Southwest State Tournament in Jasper this weekend.
The CYL team roared out of the gates to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and then followed by adding another four in the top of the second to take the game in hand.
The CYL squad added insurance runs in the third and fifth.
Zach Hull went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate for the CYL, drilling a pair of home runs with a double and a single.
He also drove home three runs and scored four times.
Kody Girton also went deep for the CYL Babe Ruth squad and Tyler Wilson chipped in with two ringing doubles in the victory.
Also at the plate, Jordan Girton added a double, Tanner Glenn drove home a run with a single and Coleman Craig singled and had three RBI.
On the mound, T.J. Decker shutdown Owen Valley, allowing four hits and no runs to pick up his second tourney victory.
Overall, the CYL's group of four pitchers allowed only six hits in going 3-0 in the tourney.
This group is no stranger to winning as the squad has won state titles in two of the past three seasons and will be looking to add a third in Jasper starting over the weekend.
