William "Bill" Pershing Black, 58, loving husband of Connie Diane Schopmeyer Black, died suddenly and unexpectedly July 14, at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, S.C.

Born on Aug. 13, 1948, in North Vernon, he was the son of Lavonne and Howard Black.

He was the National Reinsurance Manager of Finance and Insurance for Zurich Financial Group of Overland Park, Kansas. He was a member of the Association of Independent Certified Accountants (AICPA).

He was a graduate of Indiana University with a B.S. in Business. He received his CPA Designation in 1973.

He had a passion for helping others. He was an instrumental team player and financial consultant with the Ronald McDonald House Expansion Committee in Greenville, S.C. He also volunteered and worked with Habitat for Humanity.

He was a former member of the Indianapolis Masonic Lodge.

He loved spending his leisure time with his wife, children, extended family, friends and neighbors. He was a pilot, golfer, sportsman, adventurer and enjoyed traveling with his wife and best friend, Connie.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Brent W. Black and wife Rita, Indianapolis, and Patrick H. Black, Amherst, Mass.; step-daughter Jacquie Weber; brother Terry Black and wife Dee, Orlando; mother and father-in-law Michael and Suellen Schopmeyer, Center Point; sister and brother-in-law Kimberly and Terry Phillips, Princeton, Ill.; sister-in-law Lori Harrison; brothers-in-law Brian and Joseph Schopmeyer, Center Point; sister-in-law Joyce Schopmeyer and fiance Greg Fuqua, Terre Haute; nephews Ryan Black, Groton, Mass., Tyler Harrison, Center Point, and Brigham Phillips, Princeton, Ill.; nieces Tara Ann, Indiana, and Whitney Burger and husband Charlie, Oceanside, Calif.; and great-niece Haley Burger, Oceanside, Calif.

He was preceded in death by brother Robert Timothy Black.

A gathering of friends and a celebration of life will take place from 4-9 p.m. Thursday at 121 Thornblade Blvd., Greer, S.C.
