Edwin Russell Walker of Brazil passed away after a long illness with cancer on Monday, July 16, 2007.

Born May 6, 1928, in Petersburg, Penn., he was the son of Russell and Kathleen Steele Walker. The family located in Brazil in 1943.

Ed graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1946. After serving in the U.S. Army of occupation in Korea, he returned to Brazil and was employed by Walter Evans at Old Glory Flag and Decorating Company.

He later joined the Brazil Clay Company and also worked for Twigg Industries.

On Aug. 17, 1951, he married Peggy Ann McDowell. They resided in the Brazil area until 1957 then moved to Greencastle, where he was employed by Omar Baking Company. He joined IBM Corp. in 1966 while residing in Greencastle and was then transferred to IBM in Milwaukee, Wis., where they resided for 10 years. IBM transferred the family to Dallas, where he retired in 1988. He and Peggy moved back to Brazil to be close to family.

He was also a member of the Ebenezer Church.

Survivors include his wife Petty; son Mickey C. Walker and wife Becky, Kerens, Texas; daughter Terri Baird and husband Gary, Newburgh; sister Joan Allen and husband Tommy, Brazil; grandchildren Michael Baird, Atlanta, Shelley Wheat and husband Joe, Pittsburgh, Penn., Shannon Hemenway and husband Wayne, Boonville, Cody, Lauren and Jennifer Sherrad, Kerens, Texas; great-grandchildren Sid and Isabelle Jane Hemenway, Boonville, and a large extended family of nieces ad nephews.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at French Funeral Home with Rev. William Price officiating. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and again Friday prior to services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ebenezer Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Palbearers will be Michael Baird, Wayne Hemenway, Sid Hemenway, Donald Dowell, Pete Rentschler, Tommy Allen. Special pallbearer will be Joe Spugnardi.
