The YMCA Dance Factory competed in Niagara Falls, New York on July 10 at the Rising Star National Competition.
The beginner competition team: Dalyn Boor, Kaya Daub, Lauren Swearingen received first place gold in ballet and first place gold in pom for 5-6-year-olds. The beginner team also received overall top highest score duet/trio petite (ages 5-8) first place pom and second place ballet.
The intermediate team: Allison Marshall and Lily Colter received first place gold in tumble dance and second place gold in lyrical. The intermediate team also received overall top highest score duet/trio junior (ages 9-12), fourth place tumble dance and ninth place lyrical. All duet/trio scores improved by about five points per dance since regionals in May.
The girls had extra practice with recital and the Rotary 4th of July Performance.
Soloist Lily Colter, 9, received first place gold in tumble dance and overall top junior solo seventh place. Kaya Daub, 5. received first place gold in character, tumble dance in petite solo competition. first place photogenic for 12 and under. Kaya also received overall top petite soloist second place. Kaya Daub was overall top five soloist of the day in 12-and-under competition receiving a bid to perform at the Shining Star Awards as a finalist.
The beginner students attended a dance workshop at the competition in hip hop, ballet and stretching taught by the judges. Auditions for scholarships followed to teach the girls how to auditions.
Kaya Daub stayed for the audition and learned how the process worked.
The students, parents and some grandparents enjoyed Niagara Falls in New York and Canada.
It was a great learning experience for the family's in dance and at the falls. Our adventure started on Sunday at the Fireworks at the Falls which was beautiful.
Some students went to the Buffalo Zoo, others on the Maid of the Mist tour to the falls, tour behind the falls, Goat Island, Hard Rock in Canada and New York, Hershey's and Coke Store in Canada. Everyone had an enjoyable and memorable time.
