Jump Start program set at NHS

Wednesday, July 25, 2007

Northview High School junior and senior students who haven't passed the state mandated ISTEP/GQE test can take advantage of a Jump Start two-week program beginning July 30.

"It's a refresher course designed to get a student's mental juices going again before school starts," Assistant Principal Jim Clausen said about the classes designed to cover the area of skills students need to work on to pass the test.

During ISTEP/GQE testing, which occurs each year for three days in mid-September, students are tested on the previous year's material.

"It's best if a student entering their sophomore year can pass the test, which is a requirement for graduation, that way they don't have to worry about it as they continue on in their school years," Clausen said. "But that doesn't always happen and we have some seniors each year that need to pass the test."

Clausen said students interested in enrolling in the classes, which will take place from 8 a.m. to noon, July 30-Aug. 10, may contact Northview High School at 448-2661.
