Richard William "Bill" Hood, 73, Brazil, died at 6:52 p.m., July 23, 2007, at St. Vincent Clay Hospital following a brief illness.

Born Nov. 29, 1933, he was the son of James L. and Wilma Doan Hood.

He was a 1950 graduate of Van Buren High School.

He served in Germany with the United States Army.

He married Roxie Roeschlein at the First United Methodist Church on Dec. 31, 1956.

He worked for Alcan in Terre Haute before retiring in 1992. During his retirement, he worked at the Phillips 66 on the west side of town. He also enjoyed playing pool and cards. Later in life, he spent much time watching ball games, especially IU and the Cubs as well as NASCAR and Jeff Gordon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Russell Thomas; sisters Doris Martin and Linda Routson; brother Leon Thomas; brother-in-law Butch Routson; grandson Joshua Altemiller; and nephew Michael Woodall.

Survivors include his wife Roxie; son Brad Hood; daughters Teresa Nees and husband Greg, Jamie Reece and husband Rusty, all of Brazil; Debbie Nees and husband Keith, Cory, and Traci Hood and fiancee Kevin, Brazil; grandchildren Erica Nichols and husband Michael, Ryan Nees, Daniele Thompson and husband John, Jerrad Hayes, and Brady Reece, all of Brazil, Jason Phillips and wife Labreeska, Cory, Rusty Phillips and wife Kristin, Center Point, and Codi Krider, Baileigh Hood, Braelynne Hood, Mercedes Drake and Shane Hood; great-grandchildren Hunter Todd, Parker Spears, Maddox Nichols, Kaylee Phillips, Mackenzie Phillips and Gage Thompson; brother James Ike Hood and wife Norma, Brazil; sister-in-law Sally Skidmore; brother-in-law Elmer Martin as well as a large extended family.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007, at French Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Price officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of services.
