Doris Marie Johnson, 86, Evansville, formerly of Brazil, died at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Tuesday, July 24, 2007, following a brief illness.

Born Jan. 5, 1921, in Knightsville, she was the daughter of Ross and Emma Stephens James.

She graduated from Van Buren High School.

She married James Johnson on Aug. 4, 1941. Most of her career life was spent working for Paitson's True Value in Terre Haute. She also worked for International Harvester in Terre Haute and Gasway Sporting Goods in Brazil.

She was well known with members of her family to be an excellent cook and gracious host. She was baptized at the Brazil First Christian Church. She loved to travel and listen to music.

She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Order of the Eastern Star Knightsville Lodge No. 238 and the HomeEc Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Robert James, Frankie Rutherford and Patricia James.

Survivors include son Gary Wayne and wife Patti Johnson, Jasonville, daughter Joyce Lawrence and husband Don, Evansville; grandchildren Ryan Lawrence, Evansville, Brandy Lawrence and fiancee Julian Greco, Indianapolis, Eric Johnson and wife Shanda, Brazil, and Jennifer Johnson and fiancee Jason Kenny, Anderson; great-grandchildren Hannah Johnson and Emily Johnson; brothers Thomas James and wife Phyllis, Brazil, John James, Clay County, Wilbert James and wife Ann, Plainfield, and Wilber James and wife Donna, Plainfield; sisters Latisha Autison and husband Robert, Avon, Sandy Ames and husband Thomas, Clay City, Jean Endsley, Clay City, and Janet Bledsoe, Avon.

Services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at Lawson-Miller Chapel with Rev. Dick McShannog officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
