The Northview Knights football team won four games this season, more than they have in several years. The team also finished in a tie for second place in the Western Indiana Conference and battled for the top spot to the very end. Part of that reason was the play of quarterback Logan Whitman.
On Thursday afternoon Whitman's play along with his team's growing success was recognized with his nomination to the 4A All-State Honorable Mention team.
Whitman was one of 13 quarterbacks in Class 4A to be awarded to the Honorable Mention list. McCutcheon QB Clayton Richard received First Team status on Thursday.
This season Whitman completed 45% of his passes for 18 touchdowns. He also threw for 1630 yards on the season and completed 107 passes to his teammates. On the ground he rushed for 395 yards and six touchdowns.
Last year he completed 176 passes over the season while connecting on 18 touchdowns. He also threw for 2125 yards in 2001 while running for another 328 yards and two scores.
In one of the biggest games of the season, Whitman threw for 331 yards and three touchdowns against unbeaten West Vigo. The Vikings however, prevailed by a 35-21 score.
In the Knights' 2001 sectional game, Whitman threw for 388 yards and three touchdowns versus Westfield.
After starting for much of the last two seasons, Whitman has one season left to help the Knights continue advancing upwards in the win column. With nearly all of his starting teammates from this season returning, Whitman will have plenty of help in guiding the Knights for another year.
