A difficult beginning to the season continued for the Clay City Eels basketball team on Thursday night as they were defeated by Riverton Parke 55-26.
Without the services of Jenna Koehler, the Eels couldn't keep up with the Panthers on the offensive end of the court.
Riverton Parke was led by Ashley Walters 21 points and Amber Porter's 11 while the Eels had no player in double figures.
Leading Clay City scorer Whitney McWilliams was held to just four points on the night though she added seven rebounds. Bryleigh Schopmeyer led the team in scoring with eight points. She also added a team high 10 rebounds as well.
The Eels actually led 12-11 after the first quarter, but the wheels fell off in the second quarter as the Panthers outscored Clay City 13-2 and took a 25-13 lead into the half. The Eels did not respond in the second half as they scored just 12 more points against the Panthers.
Clay City (0-6) will face Turkey Run this morning with the junior varsity game beginning at 10 a.m.
