Knights and Eels split contests

Northview's Erica Koehler (with ball) scored 13 points in the Knights' win over Bloomfield on Saturday afternoon. The Knights will face Cascade at home on Wednesday.

The Northview Knights moved over .500 with a Saturday afternoon win over the Bloomfield Cardinals, 56-43.

The Knights placed three players in double figures led by Whitney Medworth's 14 points. Erica Koehler added 13 points and Amy Thiemann had 10 in the victory.

Northview got the win despite having three players foul out of the contest. Ashley Pierce fouled out after registering six points, Julie Whitted went to the bench after eight points and Koehler also committed five fouls.

The Cardinals were topped by Ashley Thombelson's 28 points, but had just one other player with more than two points. Thombelson hit just eight-of-17 free throws in the game.

Northview's junior varsity also won, 33-31.

The Knights open a four game homestand with a game against Cascade on Wednesday evening. Junior varsity action starts at 6 p.m.

The Clay City Eels remained winless on Saturday with a 44-28 loss to Turkey Run.

The Warriors went to the freethrow line 30 times in the game and sank 19 while the Eels made just four-of-13 at the charity stripe.

The Warrior defense held the Eels scoreless in the first quarter and took a 19-6 advantage into halftime.

Clay City was led by Whitney McWilliams' 10 points and Bryleigh Schopmeyer added seven points and 11 rebounds in the defeat.

The Eels travel to Vincennes Rivet tonight for a 6 p.m. contest.
