Clay City shocks host Eels behind Defore and Booe's 20

Thursday, December 12, 2002

The Clay City boy's team got even stronger on Tuesday night as Jared Defore returned from injury in a big way versus Eminence.

Defore hit the hardwood for his first game action of the season and knocked down five 3-pointers on his way to 20 points in an 84-60 win over the Eels.

Clay City also got 20 points from Elliott Booe and 19 from center Matt Farmer as they jumped out to a 21-10 lead after one quarter. After leading by 13 points at the half, Clay City poured it on in the second half, scoring 46 points in extending their lead to the final 24 points.

Clay City also got seven points each from Roger Harden and Josh Stoelting to go with another six from Steven Schopmeyer.

The Eels shot 17-of-23 (74 percent) from the line in the game and overcame an 18 point night from Eminence's Kyle Malott. William Cox and Chris White each had 12 for the Eels.

Clay City got extensive time for their bench as eight players scored and everyone played.

The Clay City junior varsity also won, 34-24.

The Eels (3-1 overall, 2-0 TRC) will travel to Bloomfield on Friday night to face Class A's ninth-ranked Cardinals at 6:30 p.m.
