The Northview Knights had a successful day at the Sullivan Quad on Saturday with four individual champions and three team victories.
Austin Nicosin (103), Cory Grigsby (119), Derek Mroczek (140) and Tony Sambria (215) each won their respective weight classes as Northview beat Lawrenceville (50-27), Sullivan (39-35) and Mt. Carmel (41-35) and lost a pair of tight matches with Evansville Harrison (36-38) and Vincennes Lincoln (40-42).
Mroczek put together the Knights only undefeated performance on the day, going 5-0 on his way to the 140-pound title and moving his record to 25-5. According to coach Don Bryan his effort was the best of the day for Northview.
Cory Grigsby went 4-1 on his way to his tournament victory and a 22-5 mark while Tony Sambria got his first tournament victory of the year with four wins and a title at 215.
Whitney King was 2-3 on the afternoon at 125 and senior Nelson Norton was 3-2 on the day, standing at 5-4 this year.
One of the more heralded matchups of the day was Austin Staley's match with Jade McCammon of Sullivan at 130 pounds. The Golden Arrow grappler is currently 12th in the state according to the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches' Association.
The match went to the wire before Staley dropped a 3-2 decision, the only blemish on a 4-1 afternoon that saw him move to 25-3 this year.
Doug Porter also went 4-1 Saturday and pushed his record at 160 pounds to 19-10. Justin Wilson was 3-2 at 189 pounds in the tournament and is 20-9 this year. Brent Withers also got a pair of victories in the tourney.
The Knights current dual meet record is 8-8 this season and will wrestle in a re-scheduled match with Greencastle tomorrow evening.
