CLINTON -- One year removed from a fifth place Western Indiana Conference placing in the first stop of the wrestling postseason, the Northview Knights' experience and improvement are coming to fruition.

The Knights got a third place finish this year behind just West Vigo and three-time team titlist Owen Valley. Even better, Northview won three weight classes compared to none last year.

Coming through with a WIC title were Derek Mroczek at the 140 pound level where he tech-falled Edgewood's Jeff Harden 16-0 to take the win. In the semifinals he decisioned second-place finisher Jerrad Pirtle from Sullivan, 6-1 to advance to the finals. Last season, Mroczek took home a fourth place in the 130 pound class.

Corey Grigsby is rebounding strongly after a loss a couple of weeks ago in his match against Terre Haute South. He'll certainly be happy with a conference championship at the 119 pound level where he received a forfeit in the championship match after pinning second-place Dwight Riggen.

The Knights' third WIC individual crown came from Justin Wilson in the 189-pound class.

Wilson came through with a title match win pin over Justin Vandivier of South Vermillion.

Nelson Norton scored some nice points for the Knights with a second place finish for Northview at 135 pounds

Last year the Knights were forced to forfeit four weight classes, but had a better contingent of grapplers to fill the lineup this year and the results were there to prove it as Northview prepares for next Saturday's sectional match at Owen Valley High School. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Vandivier of South Vermillion.
