Friday, January 31, 2003

Bryleigh Schopmeyer had five points and five rebounds on Thursday night.

The Clay City Eels dropped a 64-26 decision to the Eastern (Greene) Thunderbirds on Thursday night.

The Ladybirds moved to 5-0 in the Southwestern Indiana Conference with the victory as they placed three players in double figures.

Eastern forced 29 turnovers in the game as they outscored Clay City 38-12 in the second half on the way to win number 12 against just five defeats this season.

Clay City got 12 points from Jenna Koehler on the night that leading scorer Whitney McWilliams returned to the lineup. However, she was held to just two points in her return.

Bryleigh Schopmeyer added another five points for the Eels and pulled down four rebounds. Kasi Thatcher led the team with six rebounds in the game.

Despite the low scoring evening, McWilliams still contributed four assists to the team's effort.

Clay City's loss drops them to 3-14 overall this season, 0-3 in the Tri-River Conference and 0-4 in the SWIAC.

The Eels will face South Putnam at home next Tuesday with the junior varsity game beginning at 6 p.m.

The junior varsity Eels won their contest 17-8 as Lacy Rood contributed a team-high nine points and four other Eels added two points apiece.
