The North Clay Knights sixth grade girls' AAU basketball team traveled to Bloomfield to participate in the Trotter Invitational last weekend and came away with the championship.

Though the girls lost their first game on Saturday 35-25 to North Harrison, they rallied for a win over McCormick's Creek 16-14 in their second game. Katie Smith, Allison Stearley and Stormi Raines each had four points while Shelby Colson added three.

In their third game they downed North Daviess behind Spring Raines' 12 points. The Lady Knights won 27-17 as Hannah Van Horn added five and Ali Rentschler contributed the defensive pressure.

Later, the Lady Knights eliminated Patricksburg, a team comprised of players from Edgewood, Owen Valley and Patricksburg, 23-17 to advance to the title game. Erica Lee lead the squad in rebounds while Kylee Thacker added several steals on defense.

The host Trotters matched up with the Knights in the title game. In a close decision, North Clay brought home the trophy with a 33-31 victory.

Spring Raines lead the team in scoring with 16 points while Smith, Van Horn and Stormi Raines added four apiece.

The team would like to thank their sponsors Dr. R.L. Dennany III, Dr. Staadt, Ritters' Frozen Custard at Ft. Harrison, Technifab Products, Pacesetters' Sports, Tom and Joan Allen, Dr. Bollenbacher and Dr. Madsen.

The team will travel to the Terre Haute South Invitational next before the Indiana State Tournament in April.
