CLAY CITY -- The Clay City Eels pulled off a sweep of the West Vigo Vikings with the help of a few dramatics on Thursday evening.

While the boys' team won comfortably 80-43, the girls' squad needed a strong final event from the 4X400 relay team of Elizabeth Effner, Kevi Baumgartner, Chelsea Riggs and Lacy Rood to overcome the Vikings 62-60 in the team scoring.

The girls team race was lead the entire way by the much deeper West Vigo squad but sweeps in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter events helped the Eels climb close enough for the victory.

Effner was the winner in the 3,200 race as well as being a member of the final relay team. She also joined Rood, Alisha Drake and Anna Scheuren to win the 3200 relay event. Drake was first in the 1,600 meter race and Baumgartner took second in the long jump. Lacy Rood was the winner of the 800 meters while Drake was second and Effner third.

Brittany Rood won the 100 and 300 hurdles for Clay City and Sarah Boone took first in the discus.

The boys' meet was a little less stressful for Eels' fans as Elliott Booe took advantage of a baseball rainout to win the long jump (19-3 1/2"), 100 meters (11.4), 400 meters (54.2) and high jump where he won with a height of 5-10, but cleared as high as 6-2 before just missing a shot at tying the school record height of 6-4.

Camrand Tucker also took multiple individual titles with a victory in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles and was third in the 200 meters.

David Schroer took home wins in the 1,600 and 3,200 races and Cole Schroer was second in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and third in the high jump.

Kyle Booe came through with a second place in the discus event and Bailey Piland was second in the discus.

In the relays the Eels won all three events to cap off an impressive display.

Clay City will next see action on Tuesday in a tri-meet with Shakamak and the host South Putnam Eagles at 4:30 p.m.
