Knights softball still unbeaten, baseball splits

Northview's softball team continued their winning ways over the weekend with a double header sweep against conference foe Brown County on Saturday afternoon.

The baseball team had success as well but was only able to come away with a split against the Eagles.

On the softball field, the Knights pounded out a total of 26 hits in the two games and had a pair of eight-run innings in the two games.

In game one, Denae Whittington got the win as Northview exploded for eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to take an 8-3 decision.

Natalie Shoemaker lead the power surge with a solo homerun in the fifth inning as part of a three-for-four game at the plate. She also had a double and two RBI's. Kayla Glassburn had a pair of hits including a double and two runs driven in to go with two hits apiece from Erica Koehler and Stacey Nichols. Sara Frazier and Jennifer Gregg also had two hits for the Knights.

In the second game of the afternoon, Whittington also got the win as Northview ripped the Eagles for 11 runs in the first three innings on the way to a 13-1 win.

Gregg had three hits and scored three runs for the Knights and Chandra Burns had a double and three RBI's. Millie Carr also had two hits as Northview remained undefeated this season at 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Western Indiana Conference.

At Brown County

On the baseball diamond, the Knights dropped the first game of the double header as Brown County scored a single run in each of the first five innings to win 5-2.

Brady Shoemaker had a homerun for the Knights and Jacob Jones had two hits for Northview.

The Knights rebounded in the second game as three pitchers combined to hold off the Eagles.

Jason Brown started the contest for Northview and lasted until the fifth inning when eventual winning pitcher T.J. King took the hill.

The Knights trailed 3-2 at the time, but rallied for four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to get the 10-5 win. C.J. Peters came in to get the save for the Knights.

David Kingery had a pair of two-run homeruns in the game to go with a second shot by Shoemaker as part of a two-hit game for him.

Ryan Hayes also added two hits along with Peters who had an RBI. Freshman Andrew Griffin had two hits including a double and a run driven in for the Knights who are now 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the WIC.

The Knights will travel to South Vermillion on Tuesday evening for a WIC game.
