Clay County track squads win three of four

The Northview Knights track teams swept to easy victories in their boys and girls tri-meet with Riverton Parke and conference opponent South Vermillion on Tuesday night.

The boys' team defeated second place South Vermillion by a 115 to 43 score while the Panthers had just three points. The girls then defeated the Wildcats 106 to 39 with the Panthers scoring 10 points.

For the boys, the Knights won 14 of 15 events as Michael Landry won the long jump and high jump and joined Ryan Thompson, Chris Bowman and Matt McClellan for a win in the 400 relay.

Bowman also won the 300 hurdles with Thompson taking the 110 hurdles and McClellan winning the 200 meters and 100 meters. Devon Chamberlain won the 400 meters.

Bryce Smith won the 800 meters and 1,600 meters with Tim Chastain winning the 3,200. The 1,600 relay team of Ed House, Bowman, McClellan and Shawn Piatt also got a win.

In throwing events, Neal Vanatti won the shotput with a throw of 42-9 and Nick Gebert won the discus with a throw of 101-3.

In the girls meet, Jessica Reece was a multiple winner with wins in the high jump and 300 hurdles, joining Sondra Truax who won the shot and discus events. Dani Modesitt also won a pair of individual events with a win the 100 and 200 meters and a leg in the 400 relay along with Lindsey Stearley, Kelsey Scroggins and Brit Hofmann. Scroggins won the 100 hurdles ahead of Reece.

Hofmann also won the long jump ahead of Scroggins and Stearley joined Reece, Chcarra Yockey and Natasha Barnett in winning the 1,600 relay. In the 3,200 relay, Nikki Royer, Kim Deakins, Charity Edington and Jeri Jo Mogan won. Royer also won the 3,200 meters with Deakins second in the 1,600. Yockey also got the win in the 400 meters.

The Knights will travel to West Vigo for a dual meet on Thursday evening at 5 p.m.
