Knights win track meet vs. Eels and White River Valley

- Knight baseball loses

The Northview Knights swept a tri-meet with county rival Clay City and White River Valley on Monday evening, winning the girls meet 62 to 52 over WRV with the Eels scoring 42. They boys team won 89 to 49 over Clay City with the Wolverines scoring 18.

For the Knights, Neil Vanatti won both the shot and discus events and Bryce Smith won the 1,600 and 3,200 meter races. Matt McClellan won the 200 and 100 meters.

For the Eels, Elliott Booe had a big meet with three event wins and a school record for Clay City.

In the high jump, he cleared 6-4 1/4 to edge past the old mark by a quarter of an inch. He also took wins in the long jump and the 800 meters along with a third place in the 100 meters.

Other wins for the Eels came from Camrand Tucker in the 110 and 300 hurdles while Ed House won the 400 meters and the Knights swept the relay events.

In the girls' meet, the only multiple individual event winner was White River Valley's Malea Firestone who won both hurdle events and the 200 meters.

For Northview, Dani Modesitt won the 100 meters and was second in the 200 meters. Brit Hoffman won the long jump and was second in the 100 meters. Nikki Royer won the 1,600 while Jessica Reece was first in the high jump along with third in both hurdle events to teammate Kelsey Scroggins' second in each hurdle event.

The Eels got event wins from Sarah Boone, who won the discus and Elizabeth Effner who was first in the 3,200 meters. The 3,200 relay team of Effner, Anna Scheuren, Alisha Drake and Lacy Rood won with a time of 11:20.03, which was just five seconds off of the school record.

The Knights next meet will be Thursday at home against Sullivan beginning at 5 p.m. and the Eels will face North Central and Riverton Parke at home on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Northview Baseball

The Northview baseball team dropped to 4-3 in the Western Indiana Conference with a 7-1 defeat to Sullivan on Monday evening.

The Golden Arrows scored five runs on a pair of hits and two errors in the fifth inning to pull out to the final margin of victory.

T.J. King, Jacob Jones, David Kingery, Brady Shoemaker and Andrew Griffin all had singles while Craig Wilson added a double and the lone RBI for the Knights who will face the Golden Arrows again this evening at home beginning at 7 p.m.
