Northview tennis sweeps past Mustangs

Amy Robbins has lost just six games in winning her last three matches in straight sets for the Knights.

The Northview Knights capped a perfect 3-0 streak of matches in consecutive days on Thursday evening with a 5-0 sweep of Western Indiana Conference foe Edgewood.

With wins over Owen Valley and White River Valley already under their belt the Knights came out firing as four of their five varsity matches were won in straight sets.

Both Amy Robbins and Brooke Yocom each won in 6-0, 6-0 matches over Jenny Mazer and Missy O'Brien respectively in No. 1 and No. 2 singles. At No. 3, Lacy Emery defeated Laura Adams, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.

In doubles, Katie Trout and Megan Love defeated Kati Hackler and Jessica Harris, 6-2, 6-2 and Suzanne Deal and Heather Palmer downed April Kempstone and Jennifer Hoit, 6-3, 6-1.

The Northview junior varsity got a sweep of their matches as well, 7-0.

In singles, Melissa Miller, Kristy Backfish and Trace Hassler all won 8-0 in their matches. In doubles, Brandi Butler and Rachel Deal won 8-2 and Sara Cox and Madason Stevenson won 8-1. Kristen Hauser and Kellsy Maurer won 8-4 and Brittney Spugnardi and Ramey Hayes won 8-1 to cap the sweep.

The Knights are now 4-0 in the WIC and 5-3 overall. They will host the Northview Invitational on Saturday morning with Southmont, Greencastle and Linton visiting for a 9 a.m. start time.
