Late rally sends Knight's JV to win

When Northview starting pitcher Shawn Hughes walked off the mound after seven innings he looked to be the hard luck loser despite allowing just three runs and seven hits over his complete game effort against West Vigo.

The Knights trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the final frame with the bottom of their lineup coming to the plate.

Little did he know that No. 9 hitter Jason Johnson had the Vikings right where he wanted them.

After Kyle Nees walked to lead off the inning, Johnson rifled a two-run, game-tying homerun to left field that tied the game and Graig Bass would get the game-winning RBI on a hit-by-pitch as the Knights rallied for a 4-3 victory.

Hughes was sterling on the mound in getting the victory while piling up seven strikeouts and Northview's bats did just enough to get the win.

Northview held a 1-0 lead after the first inning as Craig Trout hit an RBI single that plated Shane Cooper with the first run of the game, but the Vikings countered in the fourth inning.

A two-run, two-out single put West Vigo ahead and the Knights stranded runners on third base in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.

West Vigo added an insurance run in the top of the sixth to go ahead 3-1 before Northview's final inning heroics.

The Knights are now 6-4 overall and will travel to Terre Haute North on Thursday for a 5 p.m. game.
