The Northview Knights continued the dominance of their tennis sectional with a first round win over the South Putnam Eagles on Wednesday night, 5-0. The victory will advance the Knights to tonight's second round versus Owen Valley at 4:30 p.m.
The Knights had little trouble with the Eagles whom they beat for the third time this season.
Senior Amy Robbins defeated South's Nicole Stone, 6-0, 6-2 and Lacy Emery made short work of Brittney Cooper at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
The best match of the evening likely came at No. 2 singles for Northview as the Eagles lone senior Charlee Beasor gave Brooke Yocom a first set battle.
Yocom took the early lead 3-2 before Beasor fought her way back with the help of a number of unforced errors by Yocom. Beasor would eventually lead 5-4 in the first set before Yocom calmed down and made Beasor work side-to-side and finished off the set via tie break, 7-5. She would then breeze through the second set, 6-0.
In doubles, the team of Katie Trout and Megan Love won comfortably 6-1, 6-3 and Suzanne Deal and Heather Palmer won 6-0, 6-1 to finish the sweep.
"I think we finished out pretty strong," commented West. "They're all coming around, we're still improving," said West. "We're working on tuning up still. We've been talking about certain things all year long and now the girls are finally doing them. They're a good team. Northview should be proud of them."
The Knights will face Owen Valley in the second round tonight at 4:30 p.m.
