The Terre Haute North Patriots will be looking for a sweep of their track and field sectional today when they take on 10 other squads in hopes of capturing a team title like their girls' team did on Tuesday night.
The Patriots will join rival Terre Haute South as a favorite along with one of the best Sullivan squads in recent history.
The Golden Arrows boast three top seeds in the sectional and a total of 13 top-five seeds which gives them nearly the depth that North and South have.
However the Vigo County powers will be the favorite with North appearing to have the slight edge with 15 top-three seeds in the meet.
Northview has some standouts of their own and should graduate several to regional competition lead by their distance group.
Senior Bryce Smith is the top seed in the 1,600 with a time of 4:31 and the second seed behind North Central's Josh Rogers in the 3,200 meter race. He will also play a very important role in the 3,200 relay squad along with three runners out of a group that includes Matt Brand, Tim Chastain, Josh Timm, Cam King and Austin Souder.
Brand will be the fourth seed in the 400 and Clay City's Elliott Booe will be the second seed behind top seed Mike Russell of North. Booe is the fifth seed in the 200 meters behind Matt McClellan of Northview. Russell is again the top seed.
Josh Timm and Tim Chastain join Clay City's Andy Huggler in a tight 800 field that has 12 runners seeded within 13 seconds.
Booe owns the top spot in the high jump with his seeding height of 6'4 ahead of David Lenges of West Vigo and Jeremy Brown of North.
Field events are slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Terre Haute North High School and running trials begin at 6 p.m.
