The Northview girls golf team competed twice recently, with a third tourney to come.
On Monday, August 4, the girls headed to Brebeus to take part in the Brebeus Invitational. Of the six total teams in the tournament, Northview came in second with a total score of 380. Brebeus, who came in first, had a score of 358, and Mount Vernon came in third with a total of 380. Brittany Cheek, who had to miss Tuesday's match due to illness, came in with a total of 88 on Monday.
Amy Thiemann, a golfer for Northview, came in second overall with a score of 80. Kate Marshall of Jennings County came in first individually with a total of 73.
Other teams competing in the invitational were Lakewood and Chatard.
Next the girls traveled to the Valparaiso invite, where the state's top 14 teams competed. Northview came in eighth overall, with a score of 366. Pen came in first with a total of 313, and Western's 323 put them in second.
Amy Thiemann came through again with a score of 78, the 6th best in the tourney and the top of the team. Chelsea Smith had a 91, and Madison Kirchner had a 98. One point behind her was Maggie Kirchner with a 98. Finally, Millie Akers scored a 103.
"The girls worked really hard," Terry Akers, coach of the team said. "I'm very proud of the way they handled the pressure. We're going to improve even more in the future."
Tomorrow, August 7, the girls will head to Stonecrest, in Bedford, to compete in the Edgewood Invitational.
