Northview harriers victorious; golf team falls just short

The Northview cross country teams kicked off their season in style amidst oppressive heat and humidity Thursday afternoon.

The girls team swept the top four spots and six of the first seven on the way to a 16-44 victory over Riverton Parke. The boys team also won comfortably over the Panthers by taking the top seven positions, 15-50.

Josh Timm made his cross-country debut count with a first place finish in 19:38 ahead of teammate Matt Brand who crossed in 19:53. Justin Scherb was third overall, also in 19:53 with Cam King next in 20:53. Jarod Reece was fifth with a time of 21:21 followed by Kyle Colson in sixth, Ryan Thompson in seventh and Hunter Reberger in ninth.

Logan Wegner took 11th, T.J. Black was 12th, Drew White 13th and Nick Colwell was 14th.

In the girls race, Emily Pugh took the top spot with her time of 16:49 which placed her in front of Shandra Kirby's 17:28 and Nikki Royer's 18:06. Kim Deakins was fourth in 18:40 while Mary Pugh was sixth in 18:57 followed by Emily Lutes in seventh and Brit Hoffman in 11th.

The Knights (1-0) will be back in action on Tuesday versus Owen Valley and Shakmak at home beginning at 5 p.m.

The Northview Knights traveled to Hulman Links on Thursday afternoon for a dual match with Terre Haute North and came up just three strokes short versus the Patriots.

Amy Thiemann led the way for Northview with a round of 42, followed by Kelsey Smith with a 44. Jenae Huffman added a 45 and Brittany Cheek, Millie Akers and Amber Trusler all shot a 46.

Northview (2-1 in dual matches) will get another shot at Hulman Links in their next match on Monday versus conference foe West Vigo at 4:30 p.m.
