After struggling a great deal in tournament play last season, the Northview volleyball team advanced to the championship game of the Crawfordsville Tournament on Saturday before falling to the host school.
The Knights could have rolled over after a tough 25-23 first set loss in their first match of the morning versus Southmont, however they battled back for 21-17, 21-9 wins in the final two sets to move on.
In that first match victory the Knights got five blocks and four kills from Christy Fulk, five kills from Casey Challandes as well as seven service points along with six assists and nine points from Erica Koehler. Brittney Spugnardi added 11 points and Laura McCrea had four digs to go with Natalie Shoemaker's four assists.
In game two, the Knights hit their stride with a 21-17, 21-15 victory over Putnam County neighbor Cloverdale.
Koehler had three assists and 12 points and Shoemaker added eight assists. McCrea had 11 points and four digs while Fulk had five kills and a pair of blocks. Challandes had four kills as did Spugnardi.
In the championship game, the Knights came up just short versus the Crawfordsville Athenians, 18-21, 17-21.
Koehler had five assists and five points and Fulk added seven points and four blocks. Lindsey Stearley had three kills while McCrea had four digs.
The Knights, now 3-5 overall, will face White River Valley at home on Tuesday evening.
