The North Clay cross-country teams picked up a dual meet victory over the visiting Greencastle Tiger Cubs on Tuesday night at Craig Park.
The girls' team won 19 to 40 as Sarah Roeschlein and Tiffany Young took the top two spots for the Knights. Corey Laue finished fourth while Ashley Woodcox was fifth and Marissa Bryan seventh. Cassandra Barnett and Shayli Parr finished ninth and 10th respectively.
In the boys' race, Greencastle took the top two spots but North Clay grabbed five of the next six spots to win 26 to 32 as Sam Spencer took third and Griffin Maurer was fourth. Jared Royer placed fifth, Chris Smith, sixth, Jordan Maurer eighth, E.C. Moody ninth and Ryan Lutes was 11th.
On Saturday, the North Clay boys and girls teams began their 2003 season with the North Clay Invitational at the Wabash Valley Sports Center. There were a total of 18 teams and 475 runners involved in the meet.
The varsity girls team placed fifth with 164 points as Young lead the way with a sixth place finish. Laue was 30th followed by Bryan in 37th, Roeschlein 45th, Woodcox 56th, Allie True 70th and Parr 95th.
In the varsity boys' race, North Clay was ninth in team scoring with 259 points and was topped by Spencer in 33rd. Maurer was 38th, Royer 45th, Maurer 74th, Moody 76th, Seth Wright 77th and Smith 88th.
The junior varsity girls team was third with 72 points as Cassandra Barnett placed sixth and Stephanie McMains was 12th, Stormi Rains 16th, Lauren Reberger 20th, Jennifer Jeffers 31st, Spring Rains 35th, Heather Foxx 39th, Olivia Oehler 43rd, Breanna Fagg 60th and Sarah Bell 68th.
In the junior varsity boys' race, North Clay was seventh with 161 points with Ryan Lutes topping the squad with a third place finish. Austin Akers was 29th, Josh Lynch 33rd, Billy McCullough 63rd, Logan Lynch 64th, Dylan Moore 68th, Seth Gummere 70th, Phillip Atkinson 71st, Adam Clark 85th, Griffin Norris 87th and Andrew Atkinson 129th.
The Knights will be back in action tonight at South Vermillion beginning at 4:30 p.m.
