Knights run best times in tri-meet victory

Justin Scherb won the individual race on Tuesday night with a time of 16:51.

- Huggler third for Eels, Rood is sixth

Justin Scherb and Matt Brand ran their best home times of the season and Emily Pugh lowered the course record to lead the Northview Knights to a tri-angular meet victory over Clay City and West Vigo on Tuesday night.

Pugh ran a 15:54 to lower her own record by two seconds in the win as the Knights swept the top five spots to score 15 team points. West Vigo placed second with 53 points and Clay City registered 65 points.

The Eels were without their top runner Alisha Drake for the race but were lead by Lacy Rood who placed sixth overall in 17:58.

The Knights got a second place finish from Shandra Kirby who ran a 16:37 followed by Nikki Royer in 17:06, Kim Deakins in fourth with a time of 17:23 and Mary Pugh rounding out the top-five in 17:35.

Brit Hoffman placed 21st for Northview.

Clay City also had and eighth place finish from Elizabeth Effner, a 15th from Chelsea Riggs, Brittany Rood was 17th and Cameron Gerber was 19th.

In they boys race, Clay City's Andy Huggler lead in the early going before Scherb and Brand broke away in the latter half of the race.

Scherb crossed in first place with a 16:51 with Brand close behind in second with a 16:53. Huggler hung tough for a third place finish in 17:04 followed by Northview's Josh Timm in fourth.

Scherb's time was most impressive considering that he lowered his time from last week by over two minutes with Brand besting his run by 37 seconds. As a group the Knights, to a man, cut 15 or more seconds off of their best times.

Jared Reece placed fifth for Northview in 17:37 followed by Jared Schlak of Clay City and David Schroer. Cam King finished in eighth place for the Knights and Camrand Tucker was ninth followed by Dustin Souder of the Eels.

The Eels and Knights will each be in action this weekend at the Shakamak Invitational.
