Northview tennis falls; North Clay volleyball wins

The Northview tennis squad dropped a 3-2 match with Owen Valley on Wednesday night.

Tyler Akers improved his overall match record to 8-4 this year with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Matt Beckwith while Cody Melega won 6-3, 6-4 over the Patriot's Brett Worland.

At number three singles, Shawn Hughes fell to Adam Figg in three sets, 6-3, 6-7 (6-2), 3-6.

In doubles action, Jeremy Miller and Jacob Talbot lost to Jeff Keith and Shawn Reed by a 0-6, 1-6 count while Stefan Kiefer and Alex Smith dropped a 6-3, 2-6, 1-6 match.

In junior varsity action, Ben Mitchell split his two matches with a loss to Antonio Marshall 6-8 and an 8-4 victory.

With the defeat, the Knights fall to 5-7 overall and will host state ranked Terre Haute North tonight at 5 p.m.


North Clay remains unbeaten

The seventh grade North Clay Knights volleyball team retained their unbeaten record on Wednesday night with a 21-12, 21-8 win over Sarah Scott at home.

Danika Ennis had eight points with an ace followed by Ali Rentschler who had seven points and an ace. Whitney Sampson had six points and Hannah Emmert added four points as the Knights increased their record to 11-0.

North Clay will host Owen Valley and Sullivan on Saturday morning for a three-way match. The Knights begin their day with a 9 a.m. match versus the Patriots.

On Tuesday night the seventh grade North Clay volleyball team defeated South Putnam, 16-21, 21-7, 21-18.

Leading the way for the Knights were Ashlyn Yocom with 12 service points and five aces while Danika Ennis had seven service points, Hannah Emert added six with four aces, Kylee Thacker had five points and two aces and Ali Rentschler produced three points.

The win moved their record to 10-0 for the season.

The North Clay eighth grade was also victorious as the Knights picked up a 21-8, 21-12 win over the Eagles.

Traci Sanders topped the list with 11 points and four aces followed by Deryse Dellmo who had eight points. Kelsey Glassburn added three points and an ace and Ashley Hull had four points and two aces.
