Coach Kehrt Miller and his North Clay eighth grade football team prepare for the second half of their 36-28 victory over West Vigo on Monday night.

The North Clay eighth grade football remained unbeaten this season with a 36-28 victory on Tuesday night.

Trailing early 14-0, the Knights got a pair of touchdown runs from Tyler Myers to take a 16-14 after two-point conversions from Myers and Cody Crooks. Nearing the halftime break, the North Clay defense stood strong to force a punt with 19 seconds left and Jarrad Timm returned the kick for a touchdown to give the Knights a 24-14 lead at the half.

After the break, Myers hauled in a 47-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Caleb Whitman to give North Clay a 30-20 lead late in the contest.

With the Cannons moving the ball at midfield, North Clay's defense forced a fumble and recovered to set up a Timm five-yard touchdown run to cement a close 36-28 victory.

The win moves their record to 6-0 this season.

North Clay seventh grade

Nathan Williams scored two first half touchdown runs to help North Clay pick up a tie with West Vigo.

The Knights lead 12-6 late in the fourth quarter before a long pass down the sideline set up West Vigo at the North Clay seven-yard line with 28 seconds remaining.

The Cannons would eventually score on a sweep to force overtime with the Knights.

In the first overtime, both defenses stood tall to stave off a score from either side to move the game to overtime number two.

North Clay's defense came up big to open the session when Damon Smith recovered a fumble on the first play from scrimmage.

However, the Knights' offense would suffer the same problem when they fumbled on the two-yard line on second down to end the contest with a tie.
