Clay City boys win TRC, girls second; volleyball wins

Clay City's Andy Huggler won the TRC Conference meet on Tuesday night at Shakamak in 16:40.

Clay City's cross-country teams enjoyed their first taste of post-season running on Tuesday evening as the boys won the Tri-River Conference meet and the girls placed second.

The boys squad scored 33 points to stave off Linton who had 54 followed by North Central, Shakamak and Eminence.

Andy Huggler paced the team with the individual victory in 16:40, 33 seconds better than runner-up Ben Jacob of North Central. The Eels also got a fifth place finish from David Schroer in 17:35, a ninth place finish from Camrand Tucker and a 10th place from Jared Schlak.

In the girls meet, the Eels came up just short against North Central as the Thunderbirds scored 35 points to the Eels 45.

Alisha Drake came through with a third place finish to lead the team with a time of 16:42 followed by Lacey Rood in fifth place (17:10). Elizabeth Effner took seventh place for the Eels.

Clay City will host Terre Haute North tonight at 5 p.m.

Clay City Volleyball

The Clay City volleyball team picked up a road victory over host South Vermillion on Tuesday evening as Ashley McCullough had six aces, 11 digs, eight kills and a block while Rena Ramos had three kills and thre blocks.

Bryleigh Schopmeyer added seven digs and three kills while Kasi Thatcher added two aces a dig and 24 assists.

The Eels will host Shakamak on Monday at 6 p.m.
