The Clay City Junior High girls cross-country team came home with the top spot at the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference Championship this weekend at White River Valley High School.
The girls edged out Bloomfield by two points, 58-60, with Eastern just behind in 61 points for third place.
The boys squad came home with a sixth place finish as the Cardinals took the boys trophy with 36 points followed by North Daviess with 56 and Shakamak with 105.
The girls squad who have been nicknamed the Fab Five by their fans were led by Lindy Jones with her fourth place finish in 13:03 followed by Carmela Roeschlein in sixth place at 13:22 and Meranda Jackson in seventh place. Hannah Whittington was 20th and Lynsey Higgins was 21st.
For the boys team, Braxton Griffith was the front runner for the Eels with a 14th place finish in 12:14. Ryan Sutton was 16th with a 12:26 followed by Parker Modesitt in 28th, Justin Wagle in 33rd, Kyle Grassick was 34th, Spenser Barrett was 37th and Austin Sinders was 39th.
