BLOOMINGTON -- Just a few days separated the cross-country sectional race in Terre Haute and the regional in Bloomington on Saturday but there was a world of difference in weather, but similar results for area squads.

Saturday presented nearly perfect skies and temperatures after chilly, windy and rainy conditions during sectional competition, but Terre Haute North and South along with Northview will be moving on to semistate.

The Northview girls squad led by Emily Pugh, placed fourth in the regional team race with 95 points. The Knights were unable to duplicate their victory over Terre Haute South in the regional as the Braves placed in a tie for second with Bloomington North with 87 points. Bloomington South was the team victor with 53 points.

The Northview boys team also moved on to semistate as a group with their fifth place finish, finishing with 146 points to edge out Terre Haute South for the final spot.

Bloomington North won the team championship with 51 points followed by Edgewood (76), Terre Haute North and Bloomington South.

For Wabash Valley participants, they'll get to return back to familiar turf for semistate action on Saturday with competition being held in Seeleyville at the Bird-Gibson Complex, site of the sectional.

Emily Pugh was placed second to Terre Haute North's Kayla Alexander on Saturday, running a 15:44 to Alexander's 15:33. Meagan Scheidler of South was third in 15:47 and Ariel Hall of South placed 15:50.

However, Bloomington South placed four of their runners in the top-15 led by Maura Ratcliff and Hillary Davis in fifth and sixth place.

Shandra Kirby placed 11th for the Knights in 16:17 with Mary Pugh taking 26th in 17:00 and Nikki Royer in 29th with a 17:12. Kim Deakins ran a 17:31 to round out Northview's scoring.

Alisha Drake was the lone competing runner for Clay City. The sophomore placed 30th overall with a time of 17:14.67.

In the boys race, Justin Scherb was the top Wabash Valley finisher with his 17:01 that was good for fifth place in the race.

Sectional champion Josh Bedford finished in 15th for Terre Haute North. His team was led by Rob Roads in seventh place. The Patriots got a ninth place from Erik Hamilton on their way to a third place finish in the team championship.

Northview got big efforts from their fourth and fifth runners, Cam King and Ryan Thompson in order to move on as a team. King placed 44th and Thompson came through with an 18:32 behind Josh Timm's 21st and Matt Brand's 30th to move the Knights on to semistate action.

The Clay City Eels placed eighth as a team led by Andy Huggler's 22nd place finish in 17:29. Jared Schlak was 38th while Dustin Souder was 40th, Camrand Tucker was 46th followed by Jared Defore in 47th, David Schroer in 48th and Adam Schroer in 49th.
