The Northview freshman basketball team split a pair of contests at the Bloomington North Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights advanced to the championship game where they dropped a 41-38 decision to a very tall, athletic squad from Lawrence Central.
In their opening game of the tournament, the Knights shutout Indianapolis Washington in the opening quarter on the way to a dominant 57-29 victory that sent them to the championship game.
Brodee Miller led a balanced Northview attack with 10 points and the Knights put 10 players in the scoring column. Brinn Meunier chipped in nine points while Joe Evinger added eight and Hunter Reberger added seven.
In the championship game versus Lawrence Central, the Knights fell behind by nine points early and trailed by seven after the first quarter.
Despite serious foul trouble in the second period, the Knights dug in and clawed to within four points late in the half before Lawrence Central went on a 5-0 run to end the quarter ahead 28-19.
In the second half, the Knights turned up their defensive intensity and closed the gap to just a single point on a basket by Meunier at 32-31. While the Knights never quite got over the hump to take the lead, the lead see-sawed between one and four points the rest of the way.
Northview had three opportunities to tie the score in the final minute but came up short.
According to coach Rich Schelsky, foul shooting, a problem all season, came up once more to bite the Knights who hit just nine-of-16 from the line in the title game.
Josiah Brock tallied 15 points to lead the team in scoring and Miller added 12 for the Knights.
The Knights (7-4 overall) will visit West Vigo on Wednesday as part of a boy/girl doubleheader.
