Northview boys and girls earn WIC wins over Wildcats

Monday, January 26, 2004

The Knights are finally getting healthy and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Both Northview's girls and boys squads are as healthy as they have been in quite some time as each team picked up victories on Saturday night.

For the boys team, Logan Whitman returned to the lineup after suffering a head injury two weeks ago. He seemed to hardly miss a beat with four 3-pointers as he joined teammate Zach Keyes with a game-high 18 points in a 73-38 win over South Vermillion.

The girls program hasn't been fully healthy in over six weeks with several players missing time due to illness. With a complete roster back on the court, the Knights took home a 51-42 victory over the visiting Wildcats. The win was Northview's fourth in a row to move to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the WIC.

The Northview boys program advanced to 5-0 in the WIC and can clinch another conference title with a victory at home over Sullivan on Friday night.

Keyes got the Knights going early on versus the Wildcats, scoring 12 of his 18 in the opening quarter as Northview pulled out to a 22-10 lead.

From there, the Knights extended their lead to 22 by halftime as a balanced attack helped pressure South Vermillion into a five point second quarter.

For the Knights, Josh Timm added 14 points while Tyler Akers chipped in eight and front liners Dan Hoover and Craig Greenwood added seven and six points respectively.

In the girls game, Julie Whitted paced the Knights with a 16 point, 12 rebound performance that countered South Vermillion senior Kylee Wood's 29 point outburst.

The Knights held the Wildcats at bay in the middle two stanzas in pulling out to a 10 point advantage.

Laura McCrea tallied 12 points for the Knights while Whitney Medworth added 15 and Erica Koehler scored eight as Northview prepares for a Tuesday game versus county rival Clay City.
