As if Tuesday's girl's basketball contest between Plainfield and Northview wasn't going to be important enough in gaining momentum for sectional action at Terre Haute South High School on Feb. 10.
On Sunday afternoon, the Knights found out that their first round sectional opponent is, yep you guessed it, the Plainfield Quakers.
Northview will play the first game of the South sectional at 6 p.m. followed by a matchup between the host Braves and rival Terre Haute North.
Mooresville will face Martinsville in the bye round game on Friday with the winner's of Tuesday's two games facing off on Friday as well.
Northview's Clay County neighbors at Clay City High School will also see action on sectional's opening night with a contest versus White River Valley at 7:30 p.m.
The Eels will have the luxury of hosting this year's sectional and will play Feb. 10th's second game, following Bloomfield and Shakamak who play at 6 p.m.
The Quakers will come into their Feb. 3 game at Northview on a four-game winning streak, following a four-game losing streak. Plainfield currently sits at 13-6 this season with Northview boasting a 12-6 mark and a six game winning streak.
The Eels have games versus a tough South Putnam squad on Tuesday and a conference tilt with Union (Dugger) on Thursday leading up to their sectional game. Clay City has struggled of late with a five game losing streak and needs to regain momentum.
Clay City does boast two wins over sectional competitors Bloomfield and Union while a two-point loss to North Central and solid games versus WRV and Shakamak should give them confidence.
