McWilliams leads Eels past Cougars

Monday, February 9, 2004

The North Daviess Cougars must have thought they had done a pretty solid job defensively through three quarters on Clay City sophomore guard Whitney McWilliams.

But then came the fourth quarter.

McWilliams ripped off 20 points in the final period alone to help the Eels overcome a nine-point North Daviess lead and win their regular season finale, 49-47.

The Cougars opened up a 25-15 advantage at halftime before Clay City moved back to within 35-24 through three quarters.

McWilliams then knocked down a trio of 3-pointers and scored 20 of her team's 24 points in the final quarter to get the victory.

Bryleigh Schopmeyer chipped in six points and Sarah Kennedy added five for Clay City who halted a six-game losing streak.

The Eels will host sectional play beginning Tuesday when they face White River Valley in the second game at approximately 7:30 p.m.
