Several local North Clay student athletes are preparing to compete with their team on the national level.
The 14 Red Crossroads of America (COA) Volleyball Team is comprised of North Clay students Kaley Huffman, Ashley Hull, Cari Laue and Lindsay Thomas along with Alyssa Chagnon, Erika Huff and Courtney Majors of Sullivan, Kristen Flint of Greencastle and Amy Telezyn from Honey Creek Middle School.
The squad recently participated in a 14-and-under volleyball tournament in Plainfield where they won all four of their first round matches on March 6 to earn placement in the Gold Division on Sunday.
On Sunday, the 14 Red Team advanced to the championship match before falling to the KIVA team based out of Kentucky.
One week later the team traveled to Louisville, Kentucky for a tournament in which they won four matches while losing just two in the 14-open division.
After competing in four tournaments so far this year, the COA squad stands at 16-5 overall and are preparing for tournaments in Indianapolis and Baltimore, Maryland for the North East qualifier.
If the team can qualify, the 14 Red Team will advance to Houston, Texas in June for the Junior Olympics.
The team is coached by Steve Beeler and Amy Adelsberger of Terre Haute.
