Northview boys and Clay City Eels earn track wins this week

Justin Scherb won the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs for the Knights on Thursday.

Northview and Clay City each picked up track victories during Thursday's action as the Knight's boys squad earned an 82-50 win over Western Indiana Conference foe Sullivan while the Eels defeated both Riverton Parke and North Central in girls action.

Justin Scherb won the 1,600 and 3,200 meter events and Logan Whitman registered a school record in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.63. According to website www.indianarunner.com, Whitman's time is currently tied for the sixth best in the state for the event.

Matt McClellan took first place ahead of Whitman in the 200 meters and Ryan Thompson earned the 100 meter victory ahead of McClellan on Thursday night. Thompson also won the 300 hurdles and Matt Brand won the 400 meters with Hunter Reberger and Matt Miller taking second and third place in the 800 meters.

In field events, Nick Gebert was second in both the discus and shotput with Neil Vanatti third in the discus. Mike Landry was second in the longjump and Shawn Piatt won the polevault for the Knights.

Northview also won both the 400 and 1,600 relay events.

The Knights will be back in action on Monday when they host Greencastle and Edgewood.

For the Eels, Sabrina Liechty won the shotput with Brittany Rood earning a win in the high jump. Kasey Waite took the top spot in the discus for the Eels in the field events.

On the track, Danielle Steiner won the 100 and 200 meters for the Eels with Sara Kennedy winning the 400 meters and the 800 for Clay City. Rebecca Seymour crossed the line first in the 300 intermediate hurdles and the Eels won each of the relay events on Thursday.

Clay City (4-8 overall) will visit Cloverdale on Tuesday night.


North Clay Girls Track

Owen Valley 65, North Clay 42, Sarah Scott 19

North Clay's Kyler Clark broke the school record in the hurdles with her time of 17.84 and sixth graders Carlee Bell and Shelby Sands went one-two against seventh and eighth grade opponents from Owen Valley and Sarah Scott this week.

Tiffany Young was victorious for the Lady Knights in the 800 and 3,200 with Allie True placing fourth in the 800 and Cayla Yockey earning points in the 200. Corey Laue also helped the Knight's cause in the 1,600 as did Renee Leslie in the 100. Cassandra Barnett did well in the 3,200 along with Nebula Schultz and Shandi Travis in the high jump.

Though the North Clay girls lost the team battle to Owen Valley, the Lady Knights can also boast that they've beaten all Terre Haute opponents thus far.
