Clay City Eels earn pair of track wins over Clovers

Andy Huggler won the 1,600 and 400 meters for Clay City on Tuesday night.

The Clay City track teams ended their regular season on a high note with a pair of team victories over host Cloverdale on Tuesday night.

The boys team dominated the Clovers with a 101 to 22 win while the girls snuck past their hosts by a 65 to 58 count.

In the boys meet, Camrand Tucker won the 100 hurdles, 100 meters and 300 hurdles as well as competing on the winning 1,600 relay team with Cole Schroer, Andy Huggler and Kyle Tiefel.

Huggler won the 400 meters for the Eels and added the 1,600 meter title. Tiefel won the 800 meters and joined David Schroer, Jared Schlak and Adam Schroer to win the 3,200 relay. Schlak took the top spot in the 3,200 meter event.

Jared Defore won the long jump and the high jump while placing second in the high hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles and Andre Josifov won the 200 meters.

In the field events, Kyle Booe tossed the discus 111-10 for a top spot and Roger Harden won the shotput with a throw of 40-6.

For the Clay City girls, Sara Kennedy won the 400 meters while Melinda Jackson took the 800 title for the Eels and Sabrina Liechty was the discus and shotput champion.

The Eels swept both events as Joni Dyer was second in the shot with Jackie Sands in third. Kasey Waite was second in the discus and Sands was third.

Rebecca Seymor was second place in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and long jump and joined Kennedy, Jackson and Lacy Rood for the 1,600 relay win.

Rood also helped the Eels win the 3,200 relay with Liz Effner, Jackson, Alisha Drake. Drake placed second in the 1,600 meters and 3,200.

The Clay City girls finish the regular season 5-8 overall in dual meets with the boys 9-6. The teams compete at the Tri-River Conference meet on Friday night at Linton.
