Northview clips Eagles on the hard court

Trace Hassler picked up a straight set victory over South Putnam on Monday night

The Northview girls tennis squad swept past the South Putnam Eagles on Monday night.

All five varsity matches were won by the Knights who are headed for the stretch run toward sectionals.

At No. 1 singles, Trace Hassler recorded a 6-2, 6-4 straight set victory over Nicole Stone of the Eagles while Kristy Backfish took home a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jannlie Crafton.

Melissa Miller went to an extra set after dropping her opening set, 6-7 to Brittany Cooper. In the second set, Miller won 9-7 before finishing Cooper with a 6-2 third set win.

In doubles play, Heather Palmer and Megan Love won 6-2, 6-0 over Brooke Bond and Amy Sharp. At No. 2 doubles, Ramey Hayes and Kristen Hauser defeated Holly Booe and Kim Puckett 6-3, 6-2.

The junior varsity players all were victorious over the Eagles.

The JV and freshman members will face Terre Haute North's JV and freshmen tonight while the varsity will travel to Danville on Wednesday night.
