The Northview baseball team exploded for seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to blow open a tight game and pick up an 8-2 win over North Central Tuesday night.
Michael Stuckey was the beneficiary of the outburst, picking up the complete game pitching victory by allowing just two hits, both runs were unearned. He struck out three while walking five in the win.
At the plate, Codey Jones had a hit and two RBIs along with Ryan Nees. T.J. King picked up three hits along with a double and two runs driven in while both Wade Thacker and Craig Trout had an RBI. Jason Johnson also had a hit.
The win moves Northview to 15-5 overall with a game tonight versus Mooresville following a 5 p.m. 'B' game.
Back at full strength, the Northview Knights defeated Terre Haute North at Hulman Links on Tuesday, 156 to 160.
Kyle Kumpf birdied the first two holes of the round and got up and down from a tough position on the final hole to earn medalist honors with a one-over, 37.
Tyler Akers and Adam Thiemann each shot a 39 while Caleb Edington added a 41, Austin Schutte shot a 43. Devin Whittington carded a 44, Austin Staley a 45 and Roy Wyndham a 48.
"I was really pleased with how we played tonight," commented coach Scott Buell. "Kyle (Kumpf) really played an outstanding round and both Adam (Thiemann) and Tyler (Akers) played well too."
The win moves the Knights dual match record to 9-3 overall with a match at Bloomington North's Cascades Course on Thursday night.
Terre Haute North defeated Northview in softball Tuesday night, taking advantage of five errors to win 11-6.
Kayla Glassburn had three hits in the game, including two doubles and Casey Challandes also had two doubles. Chandra Burns also had two hits for the Knights who dropped to 8-11 overall.
In the JV game, the Patriots scored five runs in the second inning to pick up an 8-6 win. Morgan Keller and Sky Singleton each had two hits and a double in the loss.
The Knights host Mooresville on Thursday night at 5 p.m.
The Rockville Rox defeated Northview 4-1 on Tuesday night with Sarah Cox and Rachel Deal's doubles team the only winners. Kristy Backfish went to a tiebreaker in the first set before dropping a 6-7 (4-7), 3-6 match at No. 3 singles.
In a junior varsity match at Northview, the Knights defeated visiting Terre Haute North, 5-3.
In singles action, Madason Stevenson won 6-2, 6-2 over Tara McDonald at No. 1 while Kristen Hauser won 7-5, 6-2.
The Knights also had success in doubles play as Laura McCrea and Kellsy Maurer won 6-3, 6-4 and the teams of Nikki Mogan and Chelsea Mershon and Kayla Cooper and Christy Fulk each picked up wins.
