The Northview Knights got a nine-hole test run at Cascades Golf Course on Thursday night versus Bloomington North preceding Saturday's Western Indiana Conference tournament, but neither round came out completely how they'd hoped.
The Knights dropped a 165-154 decision to the 22nd-ranked Cougars in their dual match on Thursday before finishing a seven-stroke runnerup to repeat champion Owen Valley on Saturday afternoon, 311 to 318.
Brown County was third with a 334 followed by Edgewood, South Vermillion and West Vigo's 339 and Sullivan's 340.
Owen Valley won last season's conference title handily over the Knights with a 24 stroke margin at Salt Creek Golf Course, but Northview, led by Caleb Edington's round of 75, closed the gap on the Patriots.
Tyler Akers was second on the Knights with an 18-hole score of 78 with Adam Thiemann shooting an 82, Kyle Kumpf an 83 and Austin Staley an 87.
Northview (9-4 overall) will face Sullivan at Forest Park on Thursday evening.
In their nine-hole tuneup at Cascades on Thursday evening, the Knights were led by Thiemann's 39 with both Akers and Roy Wyndham carding a 42.
Staley added a 43 with Edington shooting a 44 and Kumpf a 45. Austin Schutte shot a 48 and Devon Whittington added a 48.
