Rox win tennis sectional, while Northview's top doubles team wins

Megan Love and doubles teammate Heather Palmer advanced to regional competition on Tuesday with a sectional victory Friday evening over Rockville.

The Rockville Rox continued their unbeaten season on Friday night with a 4-1 match victory over the host Knights to capture the Northview Tennis Sectional.

The victory propels the Rox (16-0 overall) into the Center Grove Regional versus the host Trojans.

For the Knights, their No. 1 doubles team of Heather Palmer and Megan Love was victorious, winning a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 marathon that will advance them to regional action on Tuesday evening.

Rockville won all three singles match, with No. 1 Kelsey Hartman defeating senior Trace Hassler 6-0, 6-1 and Abigail Hanner winning over Northview's Melissa Miller, 6-4, 6-0. In No. 3 singles, the Knights Kristy Backfish was defeated 2-6, 4-6 by Rockville's Mica Brown.

In doubles, Sara Losin and Karla Hopkins of Rockville downed Sarah Cox and Rachel Deal 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Deal earns Academic All-State distinction

Northview senior Rachel Deal earned Academic All-State honors recently for the Knights.

Deal played soccer and tennis for the Knights this season.

Clay City senior Kari Bettenbrock was named to the Honorable Mention Academic All-State team in softball.

The senior will attend Indiana University next season to play softball for the Hoosiers.
